Artist Statement I create art using fabric and thread. My pieces can be called 'art
quilts' or 'textile art,' but I think of them as paintings made of fabric. I am fascinated by lines, especially flowing lines that meander and curve, creating sensuous paths. I see beautiful lines everywhere in the world around me. Translating those lines into lines of thread upon cloth gives me enormous pleasure. To me, sewing is a form of meditation. As my needle enters and exits the fabric before me, I feel centered in myself and in the world around me. My process is two-fold. At first,
the lines of thread that I sew are utilitarian; they hold the pieces of cloth
together.
But then, after the construction phase is complete, the lines of threads become
decorative,
creating dimension and casting shadows as they hold the layers of the quilt
together.
