Crochet, anyone?

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

I’ve been asked to teach a crochet class at at local adult eduction center, so I’ve been doing a little internet research to find out what’s out there in the crochet world. I am now completely convinced that one can find ANYTHING that one needs on the internet. Absolutely anything. I’m not kidding. Here is proof:

Crocheted Flower Scarf

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Here is a photo of the crocheted flowers I’m working on in my spare time. They make for a very handy project to carry around, being so small and portable. Aren’t they just the most adorable little things? The close-up photo shows you just how very cute they are.

My very talented friend Benedicte Caneill designed the scarf that these flowers are destined to become.

They will be sewn together in rows of three with 50 wt. thread in matching colors (it’s not really as tedious as it sounds!) to make a pretty, pretty scarf — just right for spring!

The lovely ladies in the photo are three of my Salon Seven Sisters. From left to right: Jeri Riggs, Benedicte Caneill (the designer herself) and Susan Schrott.

Benedicte is wearing the original scarf in the photo. She wore it to our last Salon Seven meeting, and Susan and I both fell in love with it. We ripped it off of Benedicte’s neck so that we could fondle it while emitting squeals of delight (as is our custom at Salon meetings) and examine how it was put together.

Is it not a thing of great beauty?

The meeting was only a few weeks ago, and Susan has already finished making her version of the crocheted flower scarf. It’s quite beautiful, in slightly different colors from Benedicte’s scarf. In fact, you can see Susan wearing her own version of the scarf around her neck below in the photo that I boldly stole from her blog. She won’t mind.

The picture was taken (by me with her camera, which I why I know she won’t mind!) at the quilt show in Lancaster, PA. which the three of us (Susan, Benedicte and I — poor Jeri couldn’t make it!) visited last week. The scarf was a big hit — no less than thirteen people (yes, we counted!) commented on it, and most of them wanted the directions.

Benedicte, I think you have a winner on your hands! Better write up the directions, quickly!
